Criteria for Admission

Dudley Lodge Brochure

Initial enquiries can be made by any professional or agency involved with the family, but a formal referral is expected to be submitted by the Local Authority Social Worker.

Each case is considered individually within the context of the children's needs. We give equal consideration to all referrals, taking full account of race, culture, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, family structure, religion, age, mental health needs, general health needs, and any levels of physical or learning disability. Dudley Lodge is able to cater for a family where a member is a wheelchair user.

Dudley Lodge reserves the right to refuse a placement, for example where there are current concerns relating to arson, violence or sex-offending behaviours. In some circumstances, we may require psychological assessments prior to making a decision on a referral.

In referrals where there are issues relating to arson/fire starting (perpetrated by either the parent or child), we would need to refer to our insurance company before processing the application further.

In referrals where parents have a history of drug misuse we look at individual circumstances before reaching a decision to accept the referral. We are prepared to work with parents who are on a methadone programme and working with relevant agencies.

In referrals where parents have a history of alcohol misuse, it is expected that they will have made significant efforts to address this, where necessary working with agencies such as A.A.S. and A.A. (- all necessary steps will be taken to confirm their level of commitment and progress).

We are prepared to consider referrals that are made under a Section 38(6) Order.

Dudley Lodge will consider referrals in respect of parents with Schedule 1 offences on an individual basis.

There is no upper age limit for parents, and we accept referrals in relation to young parents on a Care Order. In the cases where a parent is under 16 years of age and in a relationship, there will be restrictions in respect of living in the Centre. For example the partner of a 15 year old mother would not be able to stay overnight in the same flat, the partner would use our bedsit from 9pm and could have unlimited contact and involvement in the assessment process from early morning until 9.00 p.m.
