Assessment Feedback

Our assessments are used to establish a Parents/Carers capabilities, and whether or not they can sustain progress, commitment and motivation.

This can only be achieved through consistent two way discussion between staff and Parents/Carers. Concerns and issues (and indeed positive observations) are not just simply documented, but also discussed with the parent/carer at the time.

In addition to talking through issues at the time, opportunities for more structured feedback is allocated on the family's workplan, usually this would occur towards the end of a morning and/or evening so that an overview of observations can be provided for the parent/carer by staff working with them. Sometimes a specific format to individuals will be provided, particularly to parents with a learning difficulty or where there is a language barrier.

Basic principles we follow are:

  • Appropriate, structured advice should be given
  • Positive aspects of parenting are highlighted
  • Any concerns and issues are discussed, providing clear examples and scenarios to ensure understanding
  • Parents' input to feedback sessions is essential; this should never be a one way task
  • Recording parents' responses is very important to clarify their levels of insight, ability to change/progress
