Zoe’s Apprenticeship Journey at Dudley Lodge
Zoe, one of our accomplished apprentices, shares her inspiring experience:
"Reflecting on the start of my degree apprenticeship journey, I remember eagerly applying for the course through an internal application process. My goal was to deepen my knowledge, earn a qualification, and gain invaluable hands-on experience at the same time.
Over the three years, I completed numerous modules, including those on self-reflection as a social worker, understanding the law and its application, and learning from experts by experience. I also studied various theories and models that we as professionals use every day, such as strengths-based model and solution focused and why these are important.
The course required me to spend 20% of my time 'off the job' studying at university. The remaining 80% of my week was dedicated to applying what I had learned, writing reflective logs, completing assignments, presentations, and reading.
Throughout, I received unwavering support from my managers at both Bonner House and Dudley Lodge, as well as guidance from an external Practice Educator with extensive experience in children’s safeguarding. This support was complemented by the camaraderie and encouragement from my colleagues on the course, it was great having other people experiencing the same and helping each other through any challenging assignments.
Completing this degree fills me with immense happiness and excitement. Although the past three years have flown by, it feels like I started yesterday. Looking back, the growth, learning, and the impact on children and families’ lives have been incredibly rewarding. I carry with me the lessons learned and the unwavering passion that fuelled my pursuit of social work. I have enjoyed every second of it and am incredibly grateful to have had this opportunity. Bring on the graduation day celebrations!”
