Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week

Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week

05 February 2018

Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence Awareness Week

According to the Rape Crisis Website (1) nearly half a million adults are sexually assaulted every year, despite this number, only 15% of victims report what has happened to them to the police. Despite sexual abuse and sexual violence effecting so many people every year, the topic is seen as uncomfortable and taboo, because of this, this is only the third year of ‘Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence’ awareness week. We’re standing with several leading charities campaigning to change the way the topic is handled and to stop it from flying under the radar. We want to encourage discussion about Sexual Abuse & Sexual Violence and work towards preventing it in the UK and the rest of the world.

This is an inclusive campaign supporting everyone no matter what their age, religion, gender or sexual orientation. Everyone deserves to be heard. For too long victims have blamed themselves for what has happened to them. The point of the week is to ensure people know that someone is always willing to listen, and they will be believed.
