Bonner House Achieve OFSTED GOOD Provider

We are proud to announce that our residential family assessment centre Bonner House, in Bournville, Birmingham has been awarded ‘Ofsted Good Provider’. Following the two day inspection at Bonner House in November 2022, we are delighted to have achieved the accolade of Good in all areas.

The overall experiences and progress of children and parents was rated ‘Good’.

It was reported that families receive a high-quality, safe service and staff work hard at building positive relationships.

It was also noted that there is a nurturing ethos which is balanced with staff setting clear and consistent boundaries and appropriately challenging parents when there are concerns.

Assessment reports are thorough, detailed and evidence based and any plans to mitigate risks are fully explored with clear recommendations given.

Verbal feedback received from the inspection included Bonner House having a calm, friendly and warm environment where families are supported to feel at home.

Feedback from Residents was consistently positive too, one parent said:

“Staff are respectful of me. I appreciate that. I know why I’m here. I need to show that I can be a good parent to my child. They give me targets. I meet with them every day. I want to be the best and they are really helpful at helping me understand how to be a good parent. I think I am doing that. They listen to me. They have helped me.”

A children’s guardian said:

“Reviews have taken place as they should have done. Reports have been very good quality. Very good plans, very good progress for the family. There has been effective work. It’s not a generic package, it’s individual to the family. I haven’t got a single negative thing to say.”
How well children and parents are helped and protected was also rated ‘Good’

It was reported that children are kept safe and identified risks for each family are well known and reviewed regularly. The risk assessments and placement plans clearly set out the support, monitoring and safety strategies to keep each child and parent safe. Guidance is clear and health is closely monitored and medication is administered safely.

The effectiveness of leaders and managers was rated ‘Good’

Inspectors reported that the service has a range of internal and external monitoring systems with a thorough review and quality assurance process for all parenting assessments and final assessment reports.

Verbally it was fed back that Bonner House management are passionate and open to learning and criticism, and any changes are made and embedded. There is regular supervision, debriefs and team meetings where concerns are responded to swiftly.

The report stated that there is a culture of high aspiration for families and children during and after the assessment process and that staff feel valued, well supported and they enjoy their work.

We would like to thank all staff at Bonner House who work tirelessly to ensure that the service Bonner House provides and the experience for families, is continually the highest standard possible.
